Bringing Forth

“For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it

and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose

sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;”

Hebrews 6:7

Over and over again, scripture gives us the picture of a true Christian as one who exhibits the proper fruit in keeping with the new life and forgiveness that the believer has experienced. After all, God has lovingly brought the broken piece of pottery back into a shape that can bring honor and glory to the Potter. And God doesn’t leave us as new creations either. His Word slowly and methodically searches out the sin in our lives and brings us more in line with the image of His Son.

If you are a Christian, the rain of God has fallen on you over and over again. His blessings and love have thoroughly soaked your ground and made it pregnant with its ability to bring forth vegetation. So, where is your fruit? Where is the great harvest that God has previously prepared your heart to deliver? He didn’t save any one of us so that we can sit around and be proud at our own fertile land. He expects the land to be tilled and for fruit to be brought forth.

If your land has brought no real fruit forth, then I would question whether your land is really a blessing or a curse to the Father. You are the fertile land that God has prepared for others to be fed from. This completes the image of the church as a body. Each member of the body brings his or her harvest to the church to feed other believers. If you are not bringing the harvest for others than your fruit will turn to rot and will be worthless. Only God will bless that land which was brought to full harvest, tilled, and given to those it was intended.

Application: What do you do with the insights and experiences that God has given you? Are you feeding others or just being fed?
