“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1
That first sentence just jumps right out and proclaims our God is a creative God. He actually made something out of nothing. He actually delighted in making the heavens and the earth. That tells me that when we are creative, we show an aspect or a characteristic of the God who made us. When we use our minds the way God wants us to, we won’t just be doing the same old routine. We won’t just be going through the motions, because God doesn’t just go through the motions. He is creative. he tries different solutions and varied methods.
I’ve heard many people say that they are just not creative, and that’s not true. It may be true that we are not all creative in the same ways however. Some may be creative with how they organize, or in how they solve problems. Some may be creative in the Arts or in music. Some may be creative in the way they serve others. But everyone is creative. Why? We are all creative because we were all created in the image of our Father, even those who do not currently acknowledge Him as their Father. We all have the capacity to create and take joy in our creations.
What we use our creativity for makes the difference between a believer or a non-believer, the difference between a disciple of Christ and someone who is simply pretending. When we use our creativity to further God’s kingdom here on earth and to bring God the glory, we are using it in the way he intended. But when we use our creativity to serve our own selfish needs and to boost our egos, we are abusing this great gift that our Father gave us. This year, let us all resolve to aim higher for Christ and give one hundred percent our efforts to His will.
