Humility

“The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. But the man who loves God is known by God.”

1 Corinthians 8:2-3

What is the opposite of pride? Is it selflessness or generosity? No, the opposite of pride is humility. And humility is embodied in the man who loves God. The humble man knows his place in the universe. The humble man knows God’s place in the universe and who he is in relation to God. that is true knowledge and that is humility.

But the man who thinks he knows something really knows nothing at all. Why? Because pride puffs up but love lets all the air out. Pride gives the importance to ourselves whereas love gives importance where it belongs: with God. Though men may think they are wise, they are not if they do not hold God in esteem.

The second verse holds the secret to eternal life. We can know all about God, the Bible and church. We can memorize verses, know all the hymns and serve wherever we are needed. But if we are not know by God, then all of our working is in vain. If God does not know us, then we have no hope of eternal life.
