Wake from Your Slumber

“And do this, understanding the present time.

The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber,

because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”

Romans 13:11

You could wait until tomorrow to share the gospel with that co-worker. You could put off those good works to the poor and needy until some later date. You can read your Bible later. You can pray at some other time. Just rest and relax. You’re saved. Isn’t that good enough? No. How can being saved be good enough. Our purpose is not to be saved from destruction. Our purpose is to fulfill the Cause of Christ and nothing less.

So, wake up from your slumber. Throw off that blanket of lethargy and laziness. The time has come to awaken that sleeping giant that we call Christianity. God has work for you to do today, not tomorrow. Tomorrow will be too late. When God calls His children to action, He will not wait while we get ready for Him. Anyone who is not ready at all times to give all for Christ is not worthy to be His disciple.

Our time of salvation is nearer today than it was yesterday or the day before. God does not wait while we get ourselves ready to complete His will. We need to wake up and respond to His call in our lives. If we continue to sleep, salvation may come and go like a thief in the night. We have work to do now. The fields are white with harvest. Let us take up the instruments of our faith and make haste.

* A disciple does not sleep in the face of God’s calling

Application: Does your faith need awakening? Would others say that your faith is awake or asleep?
